Landscape Postcards

FINALLY I've completed all postcard swaps that I was behind on and have a couple extras too. The idea for these evolved out of the Michelle Dobrin workshop of fabric landscapes that I took through the guild. Basically using Batiks and with bobbin work, I followed a sketch from the back then from the front did some quilting before adding fabric paint to the rocky island and shoreline. I'm very pleased with the results. I'm just glad my creative and stitching mojo has surfaced again and hope it sticks around forever now!!!

Cell, Purse and/or Scissor Fobs

Yep I did some crafty stuff again last week and made up more of my mostly glass beaded fobs.

Now originally I made these up only for "scissors" to mark your precious items for easy spotting. BUT as one of the quilters noted I should make them with lobster closures as they would be awesome on cell phones, Ipods, MP3s, purses, etc etc etc! Well she picked up one she liked and today she showed me that she had switched the memory ring for a smaller one and it's on her cell phone - looks lovely! Yep very versatile and I've had mine for 5 years now on my stitching scissors - used by the machine or when hand stitching.

Fobs only

The following are for your scissors:

Crocheted Pansy

Oakie dokie, my sister found me this pattern in her books and wrote out only the Pansy instructions as she knew I wanted it for my CQing projects. Well it's a little big (1.5 inches) but still would be a nice motif with some fancy buttons or silk flowers maybe in with your CQing??? Also, as on member pointed out to me, the white or creams can be hand dyed to whatever colours one wishes!!! Thanks Leslie!!!

first set

The white one was Sylvia's sample but she had trouble with her arthritis and found it tough this time and the yellow and mauve is my first attempt and the varigated and second attempt. Now can you image it with two white/cream beads in the centre with some over stitching in dark purple on the yellow (three bottom petals)??? I'm going to see if I can get some actual Size 30 purple cotton and then I'll make more up even maybe embellish one for show and post again.

'DAINTY LITTLE HEARTS'

As per Lynn's description!!! Thank you!

Okay finally I've crocheted my favorite heart pattern with various threads I have and now have a recorded sample available for swapping or sale. They range from the Size 5 (largest) about 2-2.25 inch hearts to Size 20 about 1.5-1.75 inch hearts and Size 30 about 1.5 inch hearts. Now depending on the hook used and naturally my tension the size will vary some too.

A good example is in the middle row, as the lighter varigated heart is a Size 20 thread but with the smaller sized hook is similar to the Size 30 thread with a slightly larger hook from the top two rows. And the Size 20 blue next to those Size 30 hearts made with larger hooks.

Flying In

Now here is another challenge "All Creatures Great and Small" (May 2007) that was hosted prior to the Alberta Western Retreat (that I've attended a few times) with the winner decided by "Viewers Choice" at the retreat. There were five entries and I did not win this either.

26.5 x 18.25"

This is a modification of the "Through My Window" pattern from Patch Works Studio, redesigned to fit my chosen fabric panel and crazy quilted corners added in along with bone or Mother of Pearl embellishments and feathers. This wall hanging was inspired by the 1996 movie "Fly Away Home".

When I saw this fabric it reminded me so much of the Lake of the Woods around Kenora Ontario and up near my sister's home too that I knew right away it was perfect for this challenge.

My Passion, My Peace

The Quilting Bee's 2005 Quilt Challenge - my first completed out of four purchased challenges over numerous years!!! But it didn't garner a viewers' choice prize but that's okay as it was a major first for me!

22.5 x 24.5"

See I figured with the fabrics included I probably didn't have a chance of completing this one either, that is until I glanced towards my own growing orchids and realized the peaceful ambiance I experience when seeing these exotic plants in bloom especially against the odds in my apartment. Well it didn't take long before I was stitching away with my idea. The pot and leaves were actually the excess "orchid" fabric and the sky too were hand painted with an acrylic/fabric medium mixture to ensure I didn't add more fabric than allowed. I then overlayed the background (forest setting) with a fine light coloured tulle to suggest looking out a screened window and made a window frame along with a ledge for the pot too.

Upside down view

I figured it turned out pretty well considering I had to scrounge around various family and friends for more of the "orchid" fabrics so I could have enough for a sandwiched front and back bloom. The repeat on this fabric was quite spread out and I even had to purchase more to pull this off. The smaller pieces were a real challange on this baby that is for sure.

Cowboy Hats n Boots Postcards

NOW I wonder what those Cowboys and/or Cowgirls doing without their hats n boots on???

The hats on these were made of the faux ultrasuede (at least I think it's the fake stuff) and one is kinda skinlike! I can tell you they did not like the iron nor the fusible web so I had to stitch it down securely. Now some have the band embellished with a buckle and some with a feather too.

The boots are either preprinted fabrics that I've fussy cut out and matched up or used some diamond patterned upholstery fabric that I thought was idea for the boots which I then stitched for effect.

CQd Heart Postcards

Now these are my pride and joy and in the past I've kept them for my "birthday greetings", "just because", and or "cheer you up" postcards, except I've been asked if I'm willing to maybe trade these. We will see if I change my mind or not!

These are crazy patched hearts which are then embellished to my hearts content along with a web and some type of spider (could be embroidered, beaded or a charm) along with other types of charms that catch my interest. Then the drapery Moriera(?) fabric is cut to template shape and bonded over top and then machine satin stitched around. Now they are sandwiched and finished off as postcards.
